Ethereal Thoughts
(EVP) Electronic Voice Phenomenon is the presence of either voices or noises on recordings that has no known physical explanation, such as house noises, outside noises or physical people talking, or a TV in the background. Many people feel that the voices and sounds originate from the spirit world in their attempt to contact us. It is recommended that there be some type of background noise as it is believed that this energy from a fan, water, or very low radio increases their energy, making it easier for contact. The least expensive recorders have more built in sound so they are good for this type of recording. I personally have a fan on when I'm trying to record in my bedroom.
Just like every other aspect of life, some people are more prone to pick up noises or voices, while others are more inclined to pick up photographs of orbs, ectoplasm or physical manisfestation, to recognize signs, or actually see and/or hear spirit contact.
Voices are often difficult to hear because they tend to be quiet and may be very hard to understand. With practice, most people who experiment with this form of modality will develop an “ear” for what they are hearing and will be able to distinguish background noise vs. spiritual contact. Do not expect to hear long electronic voice phenomenon from the other side as it is evidently hard for spirits to manipulate energy into voice response. You should however be able to distinguish between male and female, young or old voices. Do not anticipate hearing a loved one sound the same as they did in life as they do not have vocal cords as we do and are using vibration of energy to come through. Normally spirits will only be able to offer us one or two words at a time.
There is no need to pay large sums of money when it comes to equipment. Although digital recorders are used, a large number of people still prefer the micro cassette recorders, but any recorder is fine. 60 minute tapes are highly recommended with 30 minutes on each side, and periodically adding new cassettes so as not to pick up what may have been previously recorded. If your recorder has the ability to turn itself on at the sound of a noise rather then just run continuously, I would suggest using this feature. It is also recommended however, to have not only a built in microphone, but an external plug-in microphone. If your recorder does not have range of speed playback (which most don't), then it is necessary to upload the recording onto your computer. There are many free down loadable programs that can play, rewind, increase/decrease the speed and sound, as well as offering other benefits. A couple popular ones are Audacity and Audition, but there are other ones out there as well. Some people have picked up noises and verbal communication via their telephone, answering machines and even on their computers and baby monitors.
Although some people set up a certain time each day to tape, their feelings are that the spirits learn when you will be recording. I personally tend to record at night while I’m asleep, particularly on nights when I “feel” I should, or when something unusual has happened that leads me to believe that my loved ones are around, or on a day that has a significant meaning to me or them. Spirit contact has been made at many locations and at many times at both day and night.
When trying to capture electronic voice phenomenon, do not plan on hearing any spirit voice or noise until the recording is played back. Should you want to experiment with speaking with an entity, make sure to choose your words carefully and then allow enough time for them to respond before you continue on. It is also recommended to keep a diary of your recordings to see if there is a pattern.
One thing has been noticed is that most voices and/or noises will be the clearest and strongest as soon as the recorder is turned on. As the spirit learns how to come through, the communication will become louder and more often. Do not get discouraged if you do not get something every time, this is normal.
I have always heard that weather can and will affect the results. Obviously when there is a storm, there is a lot more energy around that spirits can use to help them. I'm sure there are people who believe the time of "high tide" or a "full moon" will affect recordings, or a group of people combined who offer their energy to the spirit in order to increase the energy level.
On my links page you will find other sites that go into more specific detail when it comes to EVPs. Although a large percent of people are using this modality to contact their loved ones, there are organizations dedicated in perfecting the advancement of technique and experimentation.
With the advent of all the television shows and some movies, more and more people are turning to electronics voice phenomenon to reach out to contact their loved ones. Most computers will have a program for recording purposes.

How Can This Happen?

When you blow up a balloon you are actually causes more pressure in the balloon then the pressure on the outside, but when you let the air rush out it makes a noise. As kids we've all played with pulling on the open end of a balloon making it create different sounds. The sound you hear is from the molecules of air inside the balloon coming into sudden contact with the molecules of air outside the balloon. This explains that once on the other side, spirits can manipulate the molecules of the air to form words, thus EVPs.

Gary's First EVP

This weekend was very busy. Sunday we had our annual ceremony at the park for Our Children's Garden.
This is a circular garden, and the walkway is created out of bricks with the children's names imprinted in them. Each year we have about 30 or so family members in attendance. There are two other Mom's and myself that do the reading.
On this occasion, I brought my digital recorder and asked for some sign that I could distinguish. I turned the recorder on and placed it into my jacket pocket because it was very windy.
Later when I returned home and listened to the recording, I found this incredible EVP. Now just to create some imagery for you. We were all in one big circle around the garden. People were quiet as you might imagine given the circumstances. The wind was blowing and the temperature was in the upper 30's.
My pocket had a cover over it, so the people talking might sound just a little muffled.There was no music
at this ceremony or cell phones.
Let me know what you think...I called the other ladies that were also reading with me, and they were so amazed they wanted to keep hearing it over and over on the phone.
Sunday night I was a guest on www.Para-X.com, the Dave and Tom show (KAPS) The show lasted a full 30 minutes. They wanted me to discuss the Mel Meter and more importantly, what inspired me to create it.
I had lots of fun giving away Mel Meters during the show. Today I received lots of phone calls from listeners telling me how much they enjoyed the show.

Gary's Spirit Box Session

Joyce, I did my first spirit box session yesterday with my assistant Kim at my office. I used a Joe's box that someone sent to me. This box scans different frequencies and the spirits are supposed to take little "blips" of words to form a response. Here's what happened. I'll tell you more later, I'm off to work now.

My Experiences

First of all let me say that this form of communication is very new to me so I readily admit I'm not experienced in this technique.
I use an inexpensive GE micro-cassette recorder along with a separate plug in microphone. I turn the sound on "high" and record at normal speed. I also put it on a setting for AVR, which means the recorder will only record if it hears a noise.
I recently started doing this and will be posting what I've gotten so far. I have probably recorded approximately the same amount of times and have not gotten any sounds at all. I do not do it every night, but only when I "feel" I should try. You will be able to tell by the sounds of the noises, these are NOT normal house sounds like a furnace or refrigerator turning off or on, nor is it the background sound of the recorder itself. On nights that I don't get anything, there is only a quiet hum created by the recorder, which you will be able to hear in between the noises. In all instances the doors to the various rooms were closed so my cat could not be responsible for anything you hear.
All but two recordings were made in my bedroom while I was asleep. I put the recorder and microphone on my desk, approximately 3 feet from my bed. My ritual, so-to-speak is to take off my robe and slippers, have my bed turned down because I don't want to make any noise that the recorder could pick up. I put my finger on the record button, turn off the light and then push the button and very quietly take about one giant step and climb into bed. I sleep with my bedroom door closed so as not to pick up any sounds from my cat.
I probably watch too many paranormal ghost hunting shows, but it seems like I get more sounds then voices, which seems to be typical because on all the shows they ask the spirits to make a noise or move something so they know a spirit is around, plus it is suppose to be easier for them to do that then to try to manipulate the air to form words. A question enters here in that are all spirits able to manipulate the air as they learn how, or is it like a physical person who can take a blank canvass and create an artisitic masterpiece while others can't? The one "hello" from my son was clear, but he had transitioned many, many years ago while my grandson and daughter's transitions are much more recent and perhaps they have not gained that ability yet. Personally, based on the types of visitations I am accustomed too, I have to lean towards the special talent theory.
Because I'm a self taught site builder there are a lot of things I don't know how to do, so if you want to hear any of the recordings over again, just stay on that page and they will continue to play over and over again until you change pages.
